About this game

Star Blaster is an arcade shooter about one decision made over and over: shoot now, or move now. Your cannon fires on its own, so the game never asks you to remember to pull a trigger — it asks you where the ship should be while it fires. Drone formations sweep, weave and pulse above you, and every time the block touches the side of the screen it drops a step closer. The drones do not simply sit there. One at a time they peel out of formation and swoop, curving as they come, and a diver is worth more than a drone that stayed in line — but only if you are still there to collect it. Only the lowest drone in a column can shoot, so incoming fire always has a clear path and you can always read where it came from. Three blocks of shielding sit between you and the fleet, and they are destructible from both sides. Enemy fire eats them, and so does yours, which turns shelter into a resource you spend rather than a place you hide. Every fifth wave replaces the formation with a carrier: bigger, slower, armoured, and firing a three-way spread you have to move through rather than out-shoot. You get three ships and one pulse per life — a screen-clearing discharge that wipes the drones outright and dents a carrier without ever killing it. Everything you shoot is unmanned machinery: drones, pods and carriers, no crews and nothing gruesome. Waves ramp in speed and fire rate up to a hard ceiling, so the late game stays fast rather than becoming impossible.

Controls

Drag anywhere on the field to fly the ship to your finger.

Keyboard

  • Left/Right arrow keys or A/D to move.
  • The cannon fires automatically; press Space to fire an extra shot on demand.
  • Press X or tap the Pulse button to release the screen-clearing pulse.
  • Enter restarts after a game over.

How to play

Destroy every drone in the wave to advance. Your cannon fires by itself, so the game is about positioning: stay under the column you want to clear, and move before the drones above you drop a step closer.

The formation

  • The formation descends every time it touches a side wall, and if any drone reaches your altitude the wave is reset and it costs you a ship.
  • Drones peel off to dive at you and are worth extra points.
  • Shields block fire from both directions but are chipped away by your own shots too.

Carriers and ships

  • Every fifth wave is an armoured carrier with a health bar and a three-way spread.
  • You have three ships and one pulse per ship.
