Checkers
Jump and crown your way to victory in classic draughts against a computer that hunts for every capture.
About this game
Checkers is the timeless game of diagonal moves and forced jumps, played against a computer opponent that never misses a capture it can take. Slide your pieces forward one square at a time, and when an enemy piece sits diagonally in front of you with an empty square beyond, you leap it and take it off the board. Captures are compulsory — if a jump is on offer you must play it — and a single well-placed piece can chain several jumps into one devastating turn, so the game rewards setting traps as much as advancing. Push a piece all the way to the far row and it is crowned a King, free to move and jump in every direction, which is often the moment a losing position turns around. The computer searches ahead with three strength settings, from a gentle Easy that only looks a move or two out to a Hard that will trade you down and grind out the endgame. You win by capturing every enemy piece or leaving the computer with no legal move. It plays the same with a tap or a click, on any screen, with nothing to install.
Controls
Tap a piece to select it — its legal squares light up — then tap a highlighted square to move. Red dots mark forced captures, which you must take. Set the computer's strength with Easy / Medium / Hard.
How to play
You play the teal pieces and move up the board; the computer plays violet. Ordinary pieces step or jump diagonally forward only. If any capture is available you must take one — jump straight over an adjacent enemy piece into the empty square beyond — and if the same piece can immediately jump again, the turn continues. Reach the opposite back row to crown a King, which moves and captures in all four diagonal directions. Take all of the computer's pieces, or leave it with no move, to win.
