About this game

Fast Lane is a traffic racer stripped to the one decision that matters: which lane. There are no corners, no grip model and no braking. The motorway runs straight forever, the speed only ever climbs, and the whole game is choosing where to be before the next row of traffic arrives. What makes it fair is that it is checked. Every row of cars is tested before it is allowed to exist: from each of the five lanes, there must be a free lane close enough to reach in the time you have left. A pattern that would strand you anywhere on the road is rejected and re-rolled. You will crash, often, but never into a wall the game built for you — the gap was always there and always reachable. The difficulty comes from that gap getting further away in time rather than in space. As the speed climbs the rows arrive sooner, and the moment comes where reacting is too late and you have to have moved already. Shave past a car close enough and it pays a near miss bonus, which is the game quietly asking whether you trust your own judgement.

Controls

Change lane with the arrow keys, or tap the side of the road you want to move toward.

Keyboard

  • Left and Right change lane, as do A and D
  • Space or Enter starts a new run from the crash screen

Touch

  • Tap the left or right half of the road to move that way
  • Or drag across the road — each 26 pixels of travel is one lane
  • One lane change at a time: the next input waits until the current one lands

How to play

Stay out of the traffic for as long as you can while the road keeps getting faster.

  • You drive the cyan car at the bottom. Everything red is traffic, and touching any of it ends the run
  • You move a whole lane at a time and a lane change takes a moment to complete, so a change begun too late has not happened yet
  • Every car you clear scores. Clearing one from the lane right beside it scores a near miss on top
  • Speed rises the whole time and the rows close up as it does, so the road you could read at the start needs reading further ahead later
