Helix Drop is an arcade game about reading a tower before you fall through it. A ball bounces down a spiral of ringed platforms, and you control the tower rather than the ball.

The rules

Drag left or right and the whole helix turns beneath the ball. The ball itself is not steerable at all.

Each ring is broken into segments. Open gaps let the ball fall through to the next level. Solid segments bounce it, costing nothing but your rhythm. Red segments end the run instantly.

The deeper you get, the higher the score.

What you are actually controlling

Because you rotate the tower and not the ball, everything is about where the gap will be when the ball comes down — not where it is now.

The ball bounces on a fixed rhythm. Rotating takes time. So the input you make is always a prediction: you are lining up a gap for a moment that has not happened yet, and a rotation started too late arrives after the ball has already landed.

This is why the game rewards looking down rather than at the ball. The ring below the one you are on is the one you should be aligning; the ring you are on is already decided.

Charging, and when to release

Pass through three rings in a row without bouncing and the ball charges white-hot, smashing straight through solid rings for bonus points until it touches down.

That changes the calculation completely. Once charged, solid segments stop mattering and you can plunge without aligning anything — so the run is not a steady descent, it is a series of attempts to start a charge and ride it as far as possible.

Red segments still end the run while charged. That is the one thing the charge does not protect you from, and it is what catches people out during a long plunge.

How to play it

Aim to chain. A single clean drop is worth little; three in a row is worth a charge, and a charge is worth a great many rings. So when you have made two clean drops, the third alignment is the most valuable input in the game and worth committing to early.

When you bounce, reset deliberately. A bounce costs nothing directly, but it breaks the chain, so there is no point rushing the next alignment — take the extra bounce to line the next gap up properly rather than half-turning into a red segment.

Watch for red while charged. A plunge is fast and the reds arrive with no warning if you are not reading ahead, which is exactly when it is most tempting to stop reading.

Strategy tips

Align the ring below the one you are on. The ring you are bouncing on is already decided, and rotation takes time you have to spend in advance.
Play for chains, not for single drops. Three clean rings in a row charges the ball, and a charge is worth far more than any individual drop.
Commit early to the third alignment. Once you have two clean drops the next one is the most valuable input in the game.
Keep reading while charged. Solid rings stop mattering but red rings still end the run, and a fast plunge is exactly when people stop looking.
Treat a bounce as free thinking time. It costs nothing but the chain, so use it to line the next gap up properly rather than half-turning into trouble.
Make small corrections rather than big spins. Over-rotating past a gap costs a whole bounce to fix.
Look for the reds first, gaps second. Avoiding the thing that ends the run matters more than finding the thing that scores.
Expect the pace to punish hesitation late on. Deep in a tower there is less time between bounces, so decisions have to be made a ring earlier.
