Helix Drop
Spin the tower, thread the falling ball through every gap, and dive as deep as you can without touching a red ring.
About this game
Helix Drop is a one-thumb arcade game about reading a tower before you fall through it. A glowing ball bounces on a spiral of ringed platforms, and the only thing you control is the tower itself: drag left or right and the whole helix turns beneath the ball. Line a gap up under it and the ball drops a level. Get it wrong and it lands on solid ground and bounces, costing you nothing but your rhythm — get it badly wrong and it lands on a red ring, and the run is over. The depth is where the game opens up. Fall through three rings in a row without touching down and the ball charges: it turns white-hot and smashes straight through solid platforms instead of bouncing off them, shattering each ring into falling debris as it goes. A charged dive is worth far more than a careful descent, and it is the only way to put a real score on the board. The catch is that a charge buys you nothing against the red rings — they end the run whatever state you are in — so the deeper you go, the more you are choosing between banking a safe bounce and holding the streak for one more level. Every tower is generated fresh, with gaps that narrow and hazards that multiply the further down you get, but the generator always leaves a way through and always leaves somewhere to land. That keeps failure honest: you did not get an impossible tower, you just did not turn it in time. The rings are hatched as well as coloured so the hazards read clearly, the whole thing plays one-handed in portrait, and if you would rather use a keyboard, the arrow keys spin the tower just as well. One drag, one ball, and a tower with no bottom.
Controls
Drag left or right anywhere on the tower to spin it.
Keyboard
- Left/Right arrows or A/D rotate.
- Enter or Space restarts after a run ends.
How to play
A ball bounces down a tower of ringed platforms and you control the tower, not the ball.
The rings
- Each ring is broken into segments: open gaps you can fall through, solid segments you bounce off, and red segments that end the run instantly.
- Spin the tower so a gap sits under the ball and it drops to the next level; the deeper you reach, the higher your score.
Charging
- Pass through three rings in a row without bouncing and the ball charges white-hot, smashing through solid rings for bonus points until it touches down again.
- Red rings are always fatal, charged or not, so weigh a bigger streak against the risk of a ring you cannot dodge in time.
