How to play Orbit Rush
One button, three neon rings, and a spark that only ever hops inward. How greedy are you?
Orbit Rush is a one-button reflex game about greed. Your spark races around one of three concentric rings, and your only control is to hop inward.
The rules
The spark orbits automatically. Tap, click or press Space to hop one ring inward.
There is no hopping back out. From the innermost ring, the next hop is a long committed wrap all the way out to the rim — and it flies straight through the middle ring on the way, so a barrier there will kill you mid-flight.
Barriers, sweeping blades and electrified pulse zones move around the rings. Touching one ends the run.
The trade
The outer rim is safe and slow: one times score, plenty of reaction time.
Diving inward doubles and then triples your scoring, and each ring inward gives you dramatically less time to react — the inner rings are shorter, so hazards come round faster.
Sitting on the rim also drains your multiplier, so pure caution is not a strategy either. The game is explicitly asking how much risk you want, and the answer changes as the run goes on.
Planning the wrap
The single most important thing to understand is the return trip.
From the inner ring you cannot step outward one ring at a time. You take one long flight to the rim that crosses the middle ring, and that crossing is not protected. So before you dive to the innermost ring, look at the middle ring and ask when it will next be clear — because that is when you will be coming back through it.
Diving in without a plan for getting out is the classic way to die on this game, and it happens well after the dive, which makes it hard to learn from.
Orbs and near misses
Energy orbs build your combo, so collecting them is how a high multiplier is sustained rather than just spiked.
Shaving past a barrier scores a near-miss bonus. This is a genuine reward for playing close rather than a cosmetic flourish, and on the inner rings it is where the big scores come from — but it is also exactly the behaviour that ends runs, so it should be taken deliberately rather than habitually.
How to build a score
Alternate. Dive for a scoring burst while you have a clear exit lined up, come back out to the rim, let the pressure drop, re-read the pattern, and go again.
Players who stay on the rim score slowly and lose their multiplier. Players who stay inside die. The score belongs to whoever is comfortable moving between the two.
Controls
Tap or click anywhere, or press Space or the Up arrow, to hop one ring inward — the innermost ring wraps back out to the rim.
- Esc pauses.
- On mobile the whole screen is the button; there is nothing to aim at. Tap anywhere on the score card to restart.
Strategy tips
- Plan the exit before you dive. From the inner ring you leave by a long wrap that crosses the middle ring, and a barrier there kills you mid-flight.
- Look at the middle ring before hopping inward twice. That is the ring you will be flying through on the way out, not the one you are about to land on.
- Do not camp on the rim. It is safe but the multiplier drains, so pure caution scores badly.
- Take near misses deliberately, not habitually. They pay well and they are also the exact behaviour that ends runs.
- Collect orbs to sustain the combo. A multiplier that is built up survives; one that spikes and drops does not.
- Alternate rather than commit. Dive for a burst, return to the rim, re-read the pattern, and go again.
- Count the rhythm of the hazards. They sweep on a loop, so the safe window is predictable if you watch one full rotation before committing.
- Remember there is no way back out one ring at a time. Every hop inward is a decision you cannot partially undo.
